KATHMANDU, NEPAL, SEPTEMBER 29, 2026: Women pull the chariots carrying Kathmandu’s three living deities during Nanicha Ya, the final-day procession of the week-long Indra Jatra festival around Hanumandhoka and Kathmandu Durbar Square. Unlike the preceding chariot processions, traditionally led by men, Nanicha Ya marks the festival tradition in which women take over the pulling of the chariots carrying Royal Living Goddess Kumari Aryatara Shakya, Living God Ganesh and Living God Bhairav. Nepalese President Ram Chandra Paudel attended the concluding ceremonies at Hanumandhoka, receiving tika and prasad from the Kumari.
