BARCELONA, SPAIN, OCTOBER 9, 2026: Thousands of housing rights protesters march through central Barcelona demanding stronger protections against evictions and calling for a general strike on November 11. The demonstration, organized by housing unions and activist groups, drew approximately 3,000 participants according to local police, while organizers estimated 15,000. Demonstrators observed a minute of silence in memory of Maricarmen Abascal, an 87-year-old woman who died following her eviction in Madrid, and Olga Matute and Javier, who died by suicide after being evicted in L'Hospitalet de Llobregat. The march began at Placa Universitat and continued through the city center. Photo by Miguel Galmés / JNA Press. (Photo by Miguel Galmés/JNA Press via Nexpher Images)
