Floods And Landslides Disrupted Prithvi Highway, Leaving Vehicles Stranded In Kathmandu

KATHMANDU, NEPAL – SEPTEMBER 27, 2026: Vehicles remained stranded along the Ring Road at Kalanki, a major gateway from Kathmandu toward Naubise and Naagdhunga, as the Prithvi Highway and other major routes remained disrupted by landslides and flooding following several days of continuous heavy rainfall. Rain since September 24 triggered landslides, road erosion and flooding at multiple locations, repeatedly blocking sections of the Prithvi Highway and leaving vehicles and passengers stranded. The highway was affected by landslides at locations including Krishnabhir, Chaukibhir, Jawang Khola and Fisling. The disruption created difficulties for long-distance drivers and passengers waiting in and around Kathmandu, with some remaining with their vehicles for extended periods while waiting for roads to reopen. Floods, landslides and road damage also affected other highways connecting Kathmandu with different parts of Nepal.
