Opposition parties protest Election Commission over vote chori allegations

OLD DELHI, INDIA – OCTOBER 7, 2026: Opposition parties including the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), Indian National Congress and Left parties staged a protest in New Delhi over allegations of irregularities in India’s electoral process and concerns surrounding the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of voter lists. The protest involved opposition lawmakers and party workers who raised allegations of “vote chori,” or vote theft, and called for action against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. The demonstrations are part of an ongoing political dispute over the Election Commission’s revision of electoral rolls. The Election Commission and the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party have rejected allegations of wrongdoing, saying the revision process is intended to identify and remove ineligible or duplicate entries.
