MADHUPUR, BANGLADESH – NOVEMBER 2, 2026: Farmers and labourers tend pineapple fields and carry harvested fruit in Madhupur, Tangail district, where pineapple cultivation supports generations of farming families. Introduced locally by members of the Garo community in the 1940s, the crop remains an important livelihood amid fluctuating prices, rising production costs, limited storage facilities and unpredictable weather. Madhupur pineapple received Geographical Indication (GI) recognition in September 2024, highlighting the region’s agricultural heritage while growers continue to seek more secure incomes and better market access.
