Police disperse LGBTI+ solidarity protest in Izmir

IZMIR, TURKEY, SEPTEMBER 14, 2026: Police intervene as demonstrators gather on Cyprus Martyrs Street in the Alsancak district of Izmir during a Feminist Night March in solidarity with LGBTI+ people. A scuffle broke out after police prevented demonstrators from unfurling a banner bearing the words “LGBTI+,” with officers using pepper spray to disperse the crowd.
