GUWAHATI, ASSAM, INDIA – OCTOBER 10, 2026: Hindu devotees perform the Tarpan ritual on the banks of the Brahmaputra River in Guwahati on the final day of Pitru Paksha, a period dedicated to honoring deceased ancestors in Hindu tradition. During Tarpan, devotees offer water and prayers as an act of remembrance and respect for their forefathers. Pitru Paksha is observed according to the Hindu lunar calendar and is traditionally marked by rituals intended to honor departed family members and seek blessings for their souls. The Brahmaputra riverbank is among the locations where devotees gather to perform these ancestral rites. The ritual reflects the continuing importance of family remembrance and religious observance in Hindu communities across India. Photo by Hafiz Ahmed / JNA Press.
