Tai Po Fire: A Photographer's Witness I didn't think much at first – fires happen in Hong Kong. But instinct pulled me to Tai Po. It was hot and dry. Black smoke rose over Wang Fuk Court. Blocks were engulfed in flames; firefighters struggled. No one believed this could happen in a city. That night, volunteers came with supplies. Schools became shelters. I saw families in tears, calling for missing loved ones. Survivors waited, hope fading. The elderly refused to leave. Everyone knew the fire wouldn't die soon. Next morning, more volunteers arrived – aid, counselling. The community rallied. Yet with my camera, I felt helpless. I could freeze moments, but not the flames. That truth is the hardest to carry.
